Book Review: The Fine Print
You’ll learn that the best rewards come with the biggest consequences. Because nothing that great is given for free
I’ve heard a lot about this book. A lot. And yes, it was from BookTok. Now I find that BookTok can be either hit or miss for me. Sometimes I love the book, other times it’s a little bit too much for me. For The Fine Print, it took me a while to really get into. Usually, with romance fiction, I’m hooked within the first few pages. But not this time around and I have a theory as to why.
I have read a fair few romance books in my time. Especially last year – I was all over it! but this time – I think I’d read too many women similar to our main character Zara and a few too many filthy rich anti-heroes such as Rowan. I will say that that is not our author, Lauren Asher’s, fault, I read her book a lot later than the other romance novels. But I needed something new and fresh. Something within the romance fiction tropes to really grab onto and excite me. Zara is your typical leading lady who is made of nothing but sunshine – but who has had her heart broken. Rowan is the cold-hearted, mean, but very handsome crux to our heroine who is deeply saddened by the loss of his mother and the subsequent abandonment of his father.
That being said, Lauren Asher is a good writer. In terms of all the romance books that I have previously devoured, the structure of the story was really well done. Asher is a very eloquent writer. Her staging of the plot it thought was quite neat, the way she built up this particular world. AND the advocacy for people with disabilities. Bravo Ms Asher.
I will definitely read the other books in this series, why? Just because I found this book hard to get into doesn’t mean that I won’t enjoy the other two. Perhaps this book is the one to set the stage for the others? I’m not sure – but I am curious to find out. Rowan has two other brothers, so the next few books will, invariably, be about them. Bring it on, I say. And prove me wrong.
