Book Review: The Spanish Love Deception

There is no way Aaron Blackford, colleague and well-established affliction of mine, would even attempt to offer something like that

Sometimes you’ve just gotta settle down with a good trashy novel. You know the ones where you don’t need to use two brain cells to get through? See this book has been on my list to read for a while, I did mean to read it whilst I was in Spain but that just didn’t happen because I was busy doing things. Tourist things. But I recently picked this up again and my god. It’s a page turner. True, its no Pride and Prejudice or Anna Karenina and you can see how it ends from page one. But hot damn! I didn’t expect this book to get quite so steamy. and dear reader, it does get. Oh. So. VERY. STEAMY.

So what’s it about? We have a Heroine: Catalina Martín who is chief bridesmaid to her sister Isabel’s wedding. Isabel lives in Spain, Catalina lives in New York because she ran away after a particularly nasty breakup with an ex. Small problem this ex has just announced that he is engaged so Catalina says ‘ill be bringing my new American boyfriend to the wedding’. Only she doesn’t have an American boyfriend. She lied. So, yeah…she kinda dug herself into a hole here. Then we have the Hero: Aaron Blackford, handsome, successful, dashing and a royal pain in Catalina’s arse. Oh, and did I mention he volunteered to be her fake date to the wedding? Hmmm, I wonder what happens next?

If you want a steamy, romantic story with no frills that’s a nice slow burn (except you realise they fall in love over three days) then chaps. This is the book for you. there is a reason why this book went viral on tiktok because reading this you do feel the odd pang in your heart. Like, who wouldn’t want a dashing tall, dark and handsome Cavill-esk man to sweep you off your feet? And who hasn’t, at some point in their lives, been burned by a bad love affair? This book could almost (and for me personally I MEAN almost) make you think love is possible. That there is someone out there who will notice all the little oddities about you and charm your socks off. Well, a girl can dream. So if you want to have a happy read and switch off from the crappiness that life throws at you, then give this escapist book a go.
